The fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany provided Carl Zeiss with an opportunity to reunite the company after 40 years of partition. 2011 saw the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Carl Zeiss, and the company is more successful than ever before in its history. It is one of the few formerly partitioned companies in Germany that have achieved genuine reunification.
The road was long and hard, many unforeseeable problems had to be resolved, emotions often ran high and there were many setbacks along the way, but success was eventually achieved – this is all recounted on the publication "Birds of a Feather. 20 Years of Reunification at Carl Zeiss". Historical facts and figures are brought to life through interviews, background information and images. Carl Zeiss employees, people who experienced this period with their own eyes and partners of the company look back at these eventful times. What does this all mean for us today?
The text was written by the young historian Stephan Paetrow. The book is published by the Carl Zeiss Archives.
